Stand Out in a Sea of Talent: 3 Portfolio Tips You Need to Know
Whether you're a aspiring designer looking to switch jobs or a fresh graduate starting your career, having a well-crafted portfolio is key to landing your first opportunity in UX/UI design. In this blog, I'll share three tips to help you create a portfolio that showcases your skills and impresses potential employers or clients.
Tip 1 β Showcase your process
As a UX/UI designer, your process is just as important as your final product. When creating your portfolio, make sure to document and explain your design process, including how you researched, ideated, and tested your designs. By crafting your case studies to tell a story of how you went from A to B, with all the challenges and wins in between, will help potential employers or clients understand how you approach problems and create solutions.
BONUS TIP: Show the messy process! Donβt shy away from talking about the problems that occurred in a project, or the fact that you later redesign the project that better showcased your current skillset.

Tip 2 β Use visual storytelling
UX/UI design is all about creating experiences, and your portfolio should reflect that. Use visual storytelling to guide potential employers through your design process. Incorporate visual aids like images, videos, and interactive prototypes will bring your work to life. For example, if you designed a mobile app, include screenshots of the app, as well as a video showing how it works. This will help potential employers better understand your design solutions and see how they might be implemented in real life.

Tip 3 β Use personal branding
Your portfolio is not just a collection of your work, it's also a reflection of your personality. Use colors, typography, and other design elements that represent your personal style and aesthetic. Make sure your portfolio is consistent with your brand across all pages, from your logo to your social media profiles. By doing this, you show potential employers that you not only have the skills to design great projects, but also the ability to create a cohesive and memorable brand.
